Further footage reveals Guardiola blowing a kiss towards Rudiger as the defender was being led away.
Rudiger’s Recent Controversies
Despite his strong on-field performances lately, notably his effective marking of Erling Haaland during the City tie, Rudiger has faced significant off-pitch scrutiny. He drew widespread criticism for kneeing Getafe’s left-back Diego Rico in the head while Rico was on the ground. Although he avoided an immediate sanction, the Referees Committee (CTA) subsequently conceded that the action warranted a direct red card.
When questioned about the incident on Monday, Rudiger asserted that if his challenge on Rico had been intentional, ‘he would not have got up.’ He further accused the Getafe defender of exaggerating the contact and expressed feeling unfairly portrayed following the match.
