Lewis Hamilton recently took part in a vital two-day F1 wet-weather tyre test for Pirelli at Ferrari’s private Fiorano circuit. This session is designed for Pirelli to gather essential data on its wet tyres, utilizing a track that can be artificially watered. During these tests, both Hamilton and Ferrari operate under strict conditions: they are unaware of the specific tyre compounds being used and are prohibited from conducting any performance evaluations or testing new car upgrades. Pirelli exclusively dictates the run plans to ensure only relevant tyre data is collected.
Originally, Pirelli had scheduled similar wet-weather testing in Bahrain for early March, with Mercedes initially slated to participate. However, these plans were canceled due to the outbreak of the Iran War. For the current test at Fiorano, Pirelli has effectively ‘contracted’ Hamilton and Ferrari for their services, with Charles Leclerc expected to take over the SF-26 for the second day of testing on Friday. Ferrari also has a filming day test scheduled at Monza on April 22nd.
