Schumacher highlighted the irony of such a basic oversight occurring with a driver of Verstappen’s caliber. “If Max Verstappen participates, you check everything two or even three times, and then you manage to count a set of tyres incorrectly or make a wrong choice,” he remarked. He compared the blunder to Ferrari’s infamous ‘three-tire pit stop’ incident, stressing the simplicity of the rule: “Six sets of tyres, six. That must be clear.”
