Exclusive: Key Red Bull figure set to leave F1 team

Paul Monaghan, Red Bull Racing’s chief engineer, is set to leave
the F1 team, and RacingNews365 understands the Briton has chosen
Cadillac as his next destination. Reports of Monaghan’s potential
departure first emerged earlier this week via a German podcast. 
RacingNews365 has since confirmed through multiple sources in the
Red Bull Ring paddock that the long-serving engineer is preparing
to leave the Milton Keynes-based outfit. According to RacingNews365
sources, the 58-year-old will join F1 newcomer Cadillac, where he
is expected to take up a senior leadership role within the team’s
engineering department. Monaghan is also understood to have
received an offer from Aston Martin, where he was lined up for a
key leadership role within the team’s engineering department. While
his destination now appears clear, the timing of his departure
remains uncertain. Monaghan continues to serve as Red Bull Racing’s
chief engineer, and although multiple well-placed sources have
confirmed his intention to leave, the formal exit process has yet
to begin.  As a result, the Briton is expected to serve a period of
gardening leave, meaning that even if he departs at the end of the
2026 season, he is unlikely to begin work at Cadillac before the
summer or autumn of 2027. RacingNews365 approached both Red Bull
Racing and Cadillac for comment, but neither team wished to comment
on the matter. Monaghan is regarded as one of the last remaining
senior figures from the Christian Horner era at Red Bull, having
stayed with the team while many of his long-time colleagues
departed in recent years. Having joined Red Bull in 2005, he has
played a pivotal role in every championship-winning campaign the
team has enjoyed, contributing to both Sebastian Vettel’s four
consecutive world titles and the current era led by Max Verstappen.
Monaghan began his F1 career at McLaren in 1990, initially working
in research and development before becoming David Coulthard’s data
engineer. He moved to the Enstone-based team in 2000 during its
transition from Benetton to Renault, where he became a race
engineer, working with both Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso.  As
Alonso’s race engineer, Monaghan played a key role in the Spaniard
securing his maiden F1 victory at the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Following a brief spell at Jordan, Monaghan joined Red Bull in
2005, where he has enjoyed the most successful chapter of his F1
career.
