as it looks to propel itself up the pecking order at its home race.
It has been a largely challenging campaign for Red Bull so far, who
has bagged just one podium finish in the opening seven rounds of
the campaign. In a bid to push itself into the mix at the front of
the field, a large upgrade package has been uncovered at the Red
Bull Ring. This includes an updated floor, with the team noting
“subtle” revisions to the surface and the lourvres of the floor
board. Elsewhere, it has modified its rear suspension and revised
the pylon profiles of its rear wing, as well as making changes to
the exhaust tailpipe. The sidepod inlet and engine cover have also
been adapted, with the primary thinking behind those changes being
reliability. While Red Bull has produced the biggest upgrade of the
top teams, the other contenders have not stood still. Championship
leaders Mercedes has arrived with a new front suspension and an
updated engine cover to enhance cooling for a weekend with
scorching temperatures forecast. Ferrari, who is aiming to follow
up its win in Barcelona with another victory in Austria, has also
modified its floor, RV tail and mirror stay – all of which have
been described as free practice test items. The Italian squad has
also revised its front wing endplate, adding further support to the
upgrade introduced in Barcelona two weeks ago. McLaren, meanwhile,
has focused its upgrades on the rear of the car with revisions to
the rear brake duct, and the introduction of the ‘Macarena’ rear
wing – however the latter element is not expected to feature in
qualifying or the race. This article will be updated. Who else has
brought upgrades? Among the midfield teams, two F1 teams have
listed no upgrades for the Austrian Grand Prix – they are Williams
and Aston Martin. Grid newcomer Cadillac has arguably brought the
biggest upgrade of all as it continues to push in its bid to move
itself up the pecking order. The sidepod and engine cover have been
reprofiled to boost the cooling of the Ferrari power unit, with the
cooling louvres on the engine cover also being modified. The mirror
stay and roll hoop have undergone changes to improve aerodynamic
load, and the American team has also brought updates to the floor
of the car. At the rear of the MAC-26, the diffuser and beam wing
have been altered. Audi has also brought a substantial update with
updates to various elements, consisting of the front wing endplate,
deflector stays and floor. At the back of the car, it will be
hoping for a boost following changes to the rear suspension, beam
wing and rear wing. Alpine has also attacked multiple areas, with
its front wing, front corner and diffuser receiving a boost for the
coming weekend. Racing Bulls is seeking to continue its strong
form as it focused its upgrades on the rear of the car with updates
to the exhaust and diffuser. The front brake ducts of Haas’ car
have been revised, while an additional gill has been added on the
engine cover with the hot temperatures in mind.
